Exclusion from school can have a significantly negative impact on children, often leading to poor mental health, lowered self-esteem, academic difficulties, increased behavioural issues, and a higher risk of future social and economic disadvantages. Because of this, we only permanently exclude in exceptional circumstances once all other options have been exhausted.  Fixed term exclusions are occasionally utilised as a way to provide space and reflection following a significant incident.
